MOMENTUM Speakers Series

Momentum descriptionThe Momentum series serves as an ongoing dialogue platform and the dean's vehicle for fostering deep mindfulness and productive conversations.

Its primary aim is to close the equity gap, champion inclusivity, advance social justice reform, and deliberately confront structural racism within our educational institutions, both in the classroom and throughout the broader community. Its overarching goal is to bolster optimism, emotional regulation, empathy, diverse perspectives, pro-social objectives, and mindful awareness among all participants.

This space is dedicated to discussing and mobilizing strategies to more effectively support our college’s efforts in achieving equitable policing and eradicating racism definitively

After the health pandemic, more college students are looking to enroll in online classes as part of their academic journey. Incoming classes are more diverse than ever, with on-campus students seeking to take at least one or more of their classes online. According to a Hechinger report, “online enrollment hit a new post-pandemic milestone in the fall of 2022 when a majority – 54% – of college students took one or more of their classes online, a nearly 50% increase from the fall of 2019 when 37% of college students took at least one online class.” This talk aims to explore and promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within the realm of online learning and education. This presentation and discussion will serve to help educators create and cultivate a sense of belonging in the virtual classroom, build community for online learners, and discuss the role of faculty and administrators in fostering belongingness.

This event is co-sponsored by the De Anza College President's Office, Foothill-De Anza Foundation, and Social Sciences and Humanities Division.
